Top Series: Wouter Devos wins CSI3* 1.45m Patache D'aux Prize
Saturday’s CSI3* 1.45m Patache D'aux Prize, also counting for the World Ranking, saw Wouter Devos making it another win for Belgium at Knokke Hippique.
Seven riders jumped clear over the first round track, and were joined by two more with a single time penalty and the fastest on four faults for the second round in the Zoute Plage ring. As the sun was setting, the first to return to the arena and make it a clear round over the shortened eight-fence track was Ann Carton-Grootjans (BEL) on Irvine Ter Doorn (Toulon x Sir Lui) who finished off with her four faults from the first round.
Four riders later, home hero Francois Mathy Jr. (BEL) delivered the first double clear of the evening competition riding Igor de Vauxelles (Nonstop x Palestro Vd Begijnakker) – stopping the clock at 40.32 seconds.
Nayel Nassar (EGY) had to see a rail fall on Dee Jee (Viento Uno W x Charlie), although his time was super fast, and he slotted into third with four faults and a time of 39.58 seconds.
Straight after, Wouter Devos (BEL) went all in for his home crowd – giving full gas from the moment he crossed the start line. Pushing on to the last upright, Devos and the 13-year-old gelding Emporio Van T Holeinde (Fetiche du Pas x Acorado) stopped the clock at 39.93 to snatch the lead from Mathy Jr.
None of the remaining two riders could catch Devos. Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA) fell victim of the last upright to finish fifth, while Koen Vereecke (BEL) had the back pole on the b-element of the combination down slotting into fourth – and the Belgians were left to celebrate yet another victory at Knokke Hippique.
