The wind blows Olivier Philippaerts into the right direction at Knokke Hippique

This afternoon in Knokke, the ‘Future Stars’ presented themselves and this resulted in some very promising rider-horse combinations for the future. Olivier Philippaerts took the victory aboard Ikker, while Dutch rider Lisa Nooren finished as runner-up with VDL Groep Urane de Talma. The final competition for the young horses was presented by Zangersheide.

The bookmakers would have already had their bets on Olivier Philippaerts and Ikker up front. Last year, the talented pair made it into the prize giving ceremony on a regular basis in the competitions for 7-year-old showjumper. Ikker, sired by Ogano Sitte, keeps on developing himself nowadays as an 8-year-old. The heavy wind this afternoon in Knokke blew Olivier Philippaerts into the right direction in the jump-off. ‘I had the wind on my side today’, Olivier laughs out loud. Over the last two days, his twinbrother Nicola won two classes. ‘Today and tomorrow I follow in his steps!’, Olivier smiles. Two extremely competive riders, these twins.

‘I have been riding Ikker for about a year-and-a-half now and he is a very quick horse. He was made to jump the jump-off courses! I got the ride on him thanks to Roger Van Nuffelen and until now, he has never disappointed us!’  Last year, Ikker had many podium finishes and this victory today in Knokke was his first of this year. “Ikker is a very competitive horse. How high he will jump and what he will achieve in the end, we will see in the years to come, but until now it looks very promising!’

Damien Haelterman finished third aboard Jarcobond van den Oude Eik, while Philippe Rozier ended up fourth with Vincy du Gue.
