Victories for Koen Vereecke, Madison Goetzmann and Belgian bred young horses
Today, the Summer Circuit of Knokke Hippique started off with competitions for young horses and international competitions up to 1.45m-level.
Belgium’s Koen Vereecke and Fetard de la Pomme turned out to be the first winners of the first main class of the Summer Circuit. No less than 75 combinations competed in the 1.45m class against the clock. Fetard de la Pomme (Querlybet Hero x Nabab de Rêve) was last year’s winner of the CSI2* Grand Prix of Mechelen and took the victory in Knokke with a great gap to runner-up Philippe Leoni riding Schwyz de la Cense and number three Guido Klatte aboard Qunghai. Belgium’s Catherine Van Roosbroeck and Gautcho da Quinta, sired by Cicero Z, were the first pair to go and finished on a 12th place eventually. Maurice van Roosbroek – winner of the Grand Prix of Lummen – and Cuidam finished 21st, also clear.
Earlier on the day, Koen Vereecke already took the victory with Woutland’s Imagine, sired by Darco, in the first CSI3* class of Knokke Hippique. He beat Ireland’s Thomas Ryan and France’s Adeline Hecart.
Riders from all over the world compete in Knokke this week, but still the Belgian riders were placed in the top of the standings again, with the sisters Emilie and Zoé Conter aboard Cesanna and Irenice Horta, Damien Haelterman and Isabeau de Laubry, Alexander Kumps and Tchao de la Roque and Gilles Tomas and High Quality.
Gilles Thomas, who recently prolonged his Belgian champions titel, finished on a second place with his championship mare Indiana vh Kapelhof (by Chatman) in the 1.40m in Knokke. In the second phase he was only a touch slower than USA’s Madison Goetzmann, who took the victory aboard Wrigley. Turkey’s Omer Karaevli and Dadjak Ter Puttenen (by Toulon) finished third, just ahead of Patrick Lemmen and Chello vh Voorbos Z and Daniel Deusser aboard Happiness vh Paradijs. Jos Verlooy and Farfelu de la Pomme, Zoé Conter and Savitha and Laura Mathy aboard Penta all finished clear as well.
Belgian bred horses win Youngster Classes
The Belgian bred horses took home the victories in the Youngster Classes at the first day of the second week of Knokke Hippique 2016. D’Extra Hedoniste (by Ogano Sitte) was the fastest in the competition for 7-year-old horses aboard Italy’s Antonio Alfonso. D’Extra Hedoniste was bred by Don Leys. Germany Guido Klatte finished second and at the third spot, Belgium’s Jan Motmans finished aboard Duanda of the Lowlands Z (by Diamant de Semilly). Last winter, Duanda won many classes ridden by Constan Van Paesschen. Paul Van Den Bosch remains the owner of Duanda. Lorenzo de Luca, riding for Stephex Stables, finished fourth with Jenny vh Waterlok (by Eros Platière) and Romy Morssinkhof riding Vivota de Gree (by Diamant de Semilly) ended up fifth. Jos Verlooy finished in the top 10 as well aboard Fayette Sept (by Figaro du Ri d’Asse). A Brazilian victory in the class for 6-year-old horses, with AES-bred Erasmus (by Ugano Sitte). For France, Kingston vh Akenhof (by Electro) finsihed second.
