Future Stars: Young talents shine at Knokke Hippique
The young horses got a chance to shine today at Knokke Hippique, in the CSIYH Future Stars competitions.
Best among the 7-year-olds was home rider Lieven Devos (BEL) and the Belgian-bred mare Kusama (Diamant de Semilly x Capitol I), with a time of 32.63 seconds in phase two of this competition presented by Brussels Stephex Masters. A little over a second behind followed Christian Ahlmann (GER) on the stallion Cornwell 9 (Cornado I x Grossadmiral), while in third came yesterday’s winner of the five-star feature class – Wilm Vermeir on the Belgian-bred gelding Kiarado (Diarado x Coreggio).
With Julie Welles (USA) in the saddle, it was the French-bred mare Balade de Normandie (Diamant de Semilly x Paladin des Ifs) that won the 6-year-old class presented by Achterberg. 21 of the 41 combinations in the competition jumped double clears in this two phase class, where Welles was the fastest stopping the clock at 31.21 seconds. Jordy van Massenhove (BEL) followed close behind riding the BWP mare La Luna Hidalgo J&F (breeding unknown) to a time of 31.42 seconds in phase two securing a spot for the hosts on the podium.
